Announcing New Efforts to Support Coan Feeder Schools

Jordan Rose, Associate Director for Outreach, Center for Science Education, Emory University

Emory scientists are now leading science lab activities at two of Coan Middle School’s feeder elementary schools!

Dr. Candice Elam, Ph.D. (Postdoctoral Fellow in Biology) is leading the Whitefoord Elementary School science lab for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders on Tuesday (12:00-1:30), Wednesday (10:30-1:40), and Thursday (10:30-1:00) each week.

Ms. Brandy Wade (Ph.D. Candidate in Human Genetics) is leading the East Lake Elementary School science lab for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders on Tuesday (12:30-2:15), Wednesday (9:00-9:45), and Friday (12:30-2:15) each week.

We appreciate the generous support of the Zeist Foundation in providing stipends to the Emory scientists. Special thanks to the schools’ instructional coach, Ms. Christie Johnson, for organizing all the logistics, including scheduling, orientation, classroom setup, and facilitating communication with the teachers and principals. We look forward to a great year of collaboration and engaging science activities!
