ATLANTA – Georgia-Pacific and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are joining with APS to recognize National Clean Hands Week during an event at 10 a.m. Friday, September 23, 2011 at M. Agnes Jones Elementary School, 1040 Fair Street, S.W., Atlanta, GA 30314. The event will involve practical demonstrations of effective hand washing. Georgia-Pacific will distribute activity sheets, posters, stickers and related materials to students and school staff to reinforce the importance of this disease prevention activity. The CDC singles out hand washing as the single most effective measure in preventing the spread of disease. Participants include Bill Sleeper, President, Georgia-Pacific Professional and Marilyn R. Duffo, CDC Health Communications Specialist. Georgia-Pacific and M. Agnes Jones Elementary School have been education partners for more than 15 years. Partnerships between private and public sector organizations and APS assists the district with its educational mission by providing volunteer mentors and tutors for students, as well as supplies and materials for classroom use. News media representatives are invited to cover this event, which will include an assembly of Kindergarten students and practical demonstrations of proper hand washing techniques.
