Twenty of the 40 local high school students awarded four-year, full-tuition scholarships to attend four premier colleges and universities by The Posse Atlanta Foundation are APS students. The students, who attend seven APS high schools, will be honored during a ceremony at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, at the Georgia-Pacific Auditorium (133 Peachtree St., N.E., Atlanta, GA 30303). Students are selected for the program based on academic excellence and outstanding leadership.
The Posse Foundation recruits and trains outstanding young people from urban high schools and sends them in multicultural teams called “posses” to elite colleges and universities with full-tuition scholarships. During a rigorous eight-month training program, the students address team building, cross-cultural communication, leadership and academic excellence. This program puts the students in a position to arrive on campus in the fall well prepared to meet the challenges of college-level academic work and campus life. The scholarship recipients will attend Bard College, Boston University, Brandeis University and the College of Wooster.
