East Lake Elementary Principal Gwendolyn Benton and her school’s Student Wellness Ambassadors (SWA) were awarded the $500 “TrueBlue School” donation during the “Learn, Earn & Burn” pep rally for Georgia education held Thursday at Phipps Plaza. All pep rally attendees had a chance to receive one of three donations for their school: $1,000; $500; or a $250 gift card to The School Box.
The event was sponsored by Georgia Natural Gas (GNG) “TrueBlue Schools” and Atlanta’s own Chef Marvin Woods, who joined forces to rally the Georgia community to help schools raise much-needed dollars and promote healthy eating.
The Student Wellness Ambassadors initiative is a student leadership program designed to promote wellness in Atlanta Public Schools (APS). Other APS schools in attendance at the pep rally were Beecher Hills and Morris Brandon elementary schools and Grady High School. A student from Beecher Hills won a door prize; a copy of Chef Marvin Wood’s Home Plate Cooking cookbook.
