Metro Atlanta Chamber tutors get tutored to help students

The Metro Atlanta Chamber has partnered with Price Middle School for the last 21 years, and one of their main areas of support is a tutoring program. During the first 19 years of the partnership, the Chamber provided tutoring in reading and language arts, but last year they also agreed to help tutor math. After working with the students last year, they realized they needed a refresher course on algebra. On Febr. 19, Kia Johnson, Price’s Move It Math facilitator, traveled to the Chamber and provided a tutoring session for the tutors. Johnson worked through some examples and allowed the adults to ask questions.

John Gilman, Chamber vice president of Business Recruitment and Economic Development, stated, “We are now not only refreshed in how to come up with the right answers … but we’re in tune with the instructional practices being used in their classrooms.” Price Middle is fortunate to have such a longstanding commitment from the Metro Atlanta Chamber, and one that is flexible to meet the needs of our students.

It is essential that other community partners and teachers make sure students are equipped with the necessary essentials for college and life. The Chamber’s dedication and originality stands out and should definitely be celebrated.
