The Superintendent’s 8th Annual Student Summit for high school and middle school students was held last week at the Holiday Inn Select. Middle school student representatives assembled for their day-long summit from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 9. High school student representatives convened from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 11.
A guest speaker talked to students about the effectiveness of current education programs, future trends in the labor market, and ways schools can effectively prepare students for success in college and careers. Then students met to assess the quality and relevance of current course offerings, teaching practices, and learning activities, and consider suggestions for improvements. The last section of the day involved the students reporting their findings to the Superintendent’s Senior Cabinet, SRT Executive Directors, Central Office managers and Instructional Leadership team members.
Six students from each grade level at each APS middle and high school were selected by principals for participation in the summits.
