Grady High School wins national student journalism awards

Grady High School students captured several national print and broadcast journalism awards during last weekend’s National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) annual fall conference in Washington, D.C. Grady News Network (GNN) won the 2009 NSPA Broadcast Pacemaker Award, which is considered the equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize for student journalism. This is GNN’s second Pacemaker Award. GNN also captured second place for Best in Show for Broadcast.

Grady’s student literary magazine, Unmasking, won sixth place for the Best in Show category for student magazines. The school’s student newspaper, The Southerner, earned ninth place for the Best in Show category for student newspapers.  The newspaper has captured this award eight times in the past.

Fifteen Grady High School students won individual national awards in a number of print and broadcast news and sports journalism categories. Based in Minnesota, NSPA provides journalism education services to students, teachers, media advisors and others throughout the United States and other countries.
