Douglass women’s hoop star Khaadilah Miller to officially sign with UGA

Douglass High girl’s basketball star Khaadilah Miller already knows how to put on a show on the court. Now she’s ready to take a moment for a nifty off-the-court move. Miller, a candidate for Miss Georgia basketball player of the year, will sign an official letter-of-intent to play for the University of Georgia – during halftime of today’s game against Grady High. (Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.).

According to Douglass head coach Vernise Harris-Hill, Miller is expected to be featured in ESPN RISE magazine with a full-page picture on the top cover of the December 2009 edition.

Miller’s list of accomplish seems endless. A first-team all-state selection, she’s also an All-America candidate after already having scored more than 1,500 career points. The 5-foot-10 combo guard averages 23.4 points, 7 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.5 steals on her way to being named one of the top 20 players in the nation according to Rivals.com.

“She plays a fearless brand of basketball taking the ball into the paint and forcing the issue on a consistent basis,” Harris-Hill said. “She knows how to dominate the floor because she’s such an aggressive player, and I just love to watch her compete.  She knows how to work and show she knows how to win.”

Harris-Hill recalls Miller’s development over the years. “Her dreams started at the age of 6 years old,” her coach said. “She is now experiencing some of them right now. She helped us make history in 2006-07, when, as a freshman, she helped us make it to the state’s Final Four, playing South Gwinnett, which was another powerhouse team at that time. Khaalidah started on varsity her freshman year and every since she has made a differences for us.”

Miller hopes to major in business, psychology or pre-med and minor in history, her coach said. “Khaalidah is my player, my daughter, an inspiration to continue to coach,” Harris-Hill said.  “She is my last of the girls from the Final Four days.  I hate to see her leave, but she will do so much more at the next level. So I’m proud to have watch her grow to be a young lady.”
