Frederick Douglass High student named to state council

LaToria Dixon, a senior at APS’ Frederick Douglass High School, has been selected to serve on State Superintendent of Schools Kathy Cox’s 2009-2010 Student Advisory Council.

The council meets three times throughout the school year to advise Superintendent Cox on how state policies impact the classroom. Council members also meet to discuss education-related issues and serve as ambassadors for their respective schools.

More than 550 students from 108 Georgia school districts applied to be members of the 52-member council. Students were selected based on their answers to a series of essay questions. The first meeting of the Student Advisory Council will be held Nov. 9 at Georgia Tech.
