Booker T. Washington High shows the write stuff in essay contest

by talkupaps

Out of more than 500 art and writing samples, Booker T. Washington High School became the recipient of two honors from a recent essay contest. The former recognizes Kamalia Blunt and Rosa Cromartie as the first- and second-place winners, respectively, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Essay Contest. The latter acknowledges Washington High as having the second-largest number of essay submissions for the entire contest.

Blunt and Cromartie will be honored in Sisters Chapel on the campus of Spelman College on Dec. 1, by Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin and the mayor of Nuremberg, Germany. Both young ladies are in the top 10 percent of their class, members of S.T.A.R. Academy, Project GRAD, and the Booker T. Washington Freedom Writers Mentoring Program, English students of Anita Denson and homeroom students of Annette Muhammad. Kamalia is an artistic director with VOX Newspaper and Rosa Cromartie is a member of the Lady Bulldogs basketball team.
