Media specialists become media-center savvy at annual kickoff

by talkupaps

APS media specialists shared information and learned about new instructional resources in an annual Media Specialist Kickoff at  the Salvation Army Kroc Center on Aug. 20. The Kroc Center is a 53,500-square-foot arts, education, and recreation facility located in the Pittsburgh community of Atlanta, Ga.

The Media Specialist Kickoff, headed by APS Media Coordinator Warren Goetzel and Learning Technologies Specialist Priscilla Gipson, featured presentations on library programming and services. It was also a chance for the media specialists to share best practices with one another, which speaks to their unique position at their schools.

Media specialists also were treated to a range of more than 50 vendor exhibits and sampled some of the latest technology and library resources on the market. Representatives from APS Communications Office addressed those media specialists who also serve as Communications Ambassadors, and explained new-media and social-networking initiatives such as the new Talk Up APS online version and APS’ Twitter account.

The Media Specialist Kickoff is one of three such meetings for the group during the year. The media specialists will gather again in December for the annual Media Summit.
