Belita Hamilton is a native of Atlanta. After graduating from Fickett Elementary School, Bunche Middle School, and Mays High School, she decided that her goal in life was to become an athletic trainer. This led her to pursue a bachelor of science in education with an emphasis in sports medicine from the University of Georgia. After working with college football and basketball teams, Hamilton began tutoring with the Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation. After some self-reflection, she decided to pursue her new found love for teaching. Hamilton attended Brenau University, where she became certified in the field of mathematics and science. In 2003, she became a faculty member of Brown Middle School. Since that time, Hamilton has earned a master’s degree in technology integration from NOVA Southeastern University and is currently pursuing an educational doctorate in teacher leadership from Walden University. (Watch her acceptance speech as Middle School Teacher of the Year here.)

Outside the classroom, Hamilton coaches the Brown Middle School cheerleaders. Inside the classroom, she believes that her greatest accomplishment as a teacher is her ability to meet the diverse academic needs of her students. By setting high standards, expecting the best, and setting an atmosphere of mutual respect, Hamilton’s students know that she believes in them. In return, they believe in themselves. She strives to ensure that she utilizes every moment of her teaching career to help the future generation “get it right for life.”
