Atlanta Public Schools (APS) believes in investing in the physical, social-emotional, and financial well-being of its staff and recently demonstrated that commitment by hosting the APS Wellness Fair and Field Day for employees and their families.
Spearheaded by the Office of Employee Experience & Performance, the fair aimed to address the holistic wellness of employees and carry out the department’s theory of action, which affirms that modeling well-being for students results in their overall success.
“Events like the Wellness Fair are paramount for nurturing a thriving educational environment,” APS employee well-being program director Phaedra Brown said. “By investing in staff wellness, school districts cultivate a culture of care, productivity, and resilience among educators. Ultimately, enhancing the quality of education provided to students.”
The APS Wellness Fair and Field Day covered a wide array of topics ranging from mental and physical health to financial stability. Representatives from various organizations, including ShareCare, The Botanical Garden, and Operation Hope, provided valuable resources and information to attendees on health benefits, self-care practices, nutrition, and financial planning.
Executives from event sponsor SouthState Bank and donation contributor Family First Credit Union gave remarks expressing their support and stressed the importance of nurturing a culture of mental and physical health among personnel.

Throughout the day, attendees had the opportunity to participate in food demonstrations and field activities, including an egg relay, tug of war, kickball, and yoga. APS Nutrition Services, who is transitioning to bringing their services fully in-house, showcased healthy menu options with a live demonstration and tasting samples.
Line dancing was a big hit, promoting physical activity and camaraderie among both youth and adult attendees. Likewise, raffle giveaways were also well received, as winners took home items like $50 gift cards from Family First Credit Union and Synergy Financial, tickets to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, and teacher supplies provided by the Holistic Stress Control Institute.
By the day’s end, employees possessed the tools and resources to take proactive steps towards improving their physical, mental, and financial health.
“APS is a district that cares about the wellbeing of its people,” Brown said. “The Wellness Fair and Field Day allowed them to prioritize their wellbeing and put themselves first.”
