Project GRAD

College-bound APS seniors got their moment in the sun during the 7th annual Project GRAD-Atlanta College Signing Day. During the ceremony, parents and college representatives watched as each student signed on the dotted line at the school they will attend in the fall.

Project GRAD (Graduation Really Achieves Dreams) provides activities and support so that economically disadvantaged students chart a path to college.

“Each signature today symbolizes the realization of your dreams to attend college and your commitment to this major decision,” said Dr. Yolanda Watson Spiva, Executive Director, Project GRAD- Atlanta. “Attending an institution of higher learning will afford you a vast array of options and opportunities along the way.”

Project GRAD Atlanta provides critical academic, behavioral, social service, and college access interventions for traditionally-underserved populations of students from economically- disadvantaged communities attending the Atlanta Public Schools. Project GRAD Atlanta also provides up to $4,000.00 in college scholarships to students who earn the Dr. George W. Brumley, Jr.-Project GRAD Atlanta, Inc. scholarship.

Project GRAD Atlanta has successfully impacted high school graduation rates by helping students and their families understand that college is attainable. As a result of GRAD’s proliferation of a college-bound culture, more than 2,012 Brumley-GRAD Scholarship recipients have earned the opportunity to attend technical, two-year and four-year postsecondary institutions across the country.

Ten students representing each Project GRAD high school participated in the evening’s event, committing to schools ranging from Morehouse College to Syracuse University.

5. Richard McGee- South Atlanta Educational Complex- School of Computer Animation & Design, Armstrong Atlantic State University
6. Herchel Springer- South Atlanta Educational Complex- School of Health & Medical Sciences, Wabash College
7. Mynetria Echols- South Atlanta Educational Complex- School of Law & Social Justice, Alabama State University
8. Kourtney Renae Mosley- Schools of Booker T. Washington High School- School of Banking, Finance, &  Investment, Brandeis University
9. Lyric McGhee- Schools of Booker T. Washington High School- Early College, Agnes Scott College
10. Ariana Quinshay Reid- Schools of Booker T. Washington High School- Health Sciences & Nutrition, Tuskegee University
