Jeffrey Brown, a rising senior at The New Schools at Carver’s Early College, won a $4,000 Wilderness Scholarship from Outward Bound Atlanta that will be put toward a 21-day hike in the North Carolina mountains in July 2010. This won’t be the first time for Brown, who’s gone on a couple hikes with the program that’s worked with Carver for five years helping use the outdoors to build character.
Brown’s parents are both active in the great outdoors. His father has taken him fishing in Florida’s Everglades. His mother, Marcy Lowe (pictured above, left), almost got attacked by an alligator while she was fishing, and pregnant with Brown. (“We were both lucky,” he half-joked.)
