South Atlanta Spring Fling Brings Resources to Parents

by Thomas Scott

The South Atlanta Cluster hosted its annual Title I Input Community Meeting and Health Fair at J.W. Dobbs Elementary School, where students and families had access to a variety of resources.

The South Atlanta Cluster school administrators and parent liaisons shared valuable information with parents, keeping them updated on Title I supports and important information regarding their respective schools. The South Atlanta Spring Fling and Health Fair also had games, activities, and free giveaways for students and families.

“We want our parents to feel that they’re supported by their schools, and the one way that we can do that is to bring resources to them in the community in which they live,” Atlanta Public Schools Associate Superintendent for Elementary Schools Tabatha Lawrence said. “At the South Atlanta Cluster Spring Fling, we wrap in some Title I supports, letting parents know about Title I, what it brings to our schools, as well as we have lots of community vendors here for healthcare and whole child wellness, family support, and resources.”

After the input meeting, students and parents had access to a gymnasium full of local community resources. The Atlanta Community Food Bank, Oak St. Health, and many more vendors were on hand to provide various supports to families including academic support, financial support, and health care.

“We put a lot of work and thought into all of the resources that we put together with parents at the forefront of our mind,” Dobbs Elementary School parent liaison Consuelo Hutchings said.  “Everything that we did is centered around our parents. My goal was to make sure that parents get all kinds of resources; from healthcare, as well as anything else that they need to help their child academically in this cluster.”
