The 2026 high school baseball season is underway for Atlanta Public Schools (APS) and this year’s teams had the opportunity to introduce themselves at the APS Baseball Media Day held at Truist Park, home of the Atlanta Braves.
This is the second consecutive year that APS was able to highlight their baseball programs at Truist Park. Coaches proudly introduced the leaders of their teams and shared their goals and expectations for the season.
“We always play for championships, but if we try to get our kids better every day then we are doing our jobs,” APS Executive Athletic Director Greg Goodwin said. “I am so pleased with our coaches that are spending this time with our young people. We want our students to be major league citizens. That’s what we’re working for every day.”
The future of APS baseball is also growing at the middle school level through partnerships with L.E.A.D. Center for Youth and FCA ATL Sports. Drew Charter, King Middle School, BEST Academy and Bunche Middle School have programs that are competing and developing the next generation of players that will be representing their high schools at future media days.
APS Athletics also welcomed former professional baseball player and Detroit Tigers radio analyst Bobby Scales speak to the student athletes about what it takes to be successful no matter what their goals are.
February has been a busy month for the partnership between the Atlanta Braves Foundation and APS. It began with APS celebrating the four new Hank Aaron Diamond turf infields installed at Benjamin E. Mays High School, Maynard Jackon High School, Booker T. Washington High School and North Atlanta High School.
“The Braves have been an amazing partner for the Atlanta Public Schools system, and this just shows the commitment in what partnership does,” Goodwin said. “To be able to celebrate opening the season in the Braves’ park is amazing. A lot of these kids have come and watched the Atlanta Braves play for years.”
Good luck to the APS baseball teams this season. Play Ball!
