Atlanta Public Schools Football Teams Ready For Playoffs, Fall Sports Update

The Georgia High School Association state football playoffs begin Friday, Nov. 14, and Atlanta Public Schools (APS) has five teams ready to make their runs for a state championship.

The undefeated Carver Panthers (10-0) were the 2A Region 5 champions and will host Butler at Lakewood Stadium at 7 p.m.

The Douglass Astros (7-3) tied for first in 3A Region 5, and will host Gilmer at Henderson Stadium at 7 p.m.

The Mays Raiders (5-5) will face Cass at Cass High School at 7 p.m. The Jackson Jaguars (7-3) will be on the road against Cartersville at 7:30 p.m., and the South Atlanta Hornets (3-7) will travel to Rockmart for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Fall Highlights:

APS also has fall sports champions to celebrate in other sports.

  • The Midtown volleyball team reached the third round of the GHSA state volleyball playoffs. North Atlanta reached the second round, and both Therrell and Jackson made the playoffs in volleyball.
  • The South Atlanta softball team won its regional championship and made the playoffs.
  • Jackson High School’s Grace Danser is the 2025 4A Girls Cross Country State Champion.
  • Midtown High School’s Cameron Collier won the 2025 4A Boys Cross Country State Championship and Jackson High School’s Everett Sanders was the 4A Boys Cross-Country Runner-up.
  • Collier was also the GHSA sectional champion and was named 4A Region 4 Runner of the Year.
  • Therrell’s girls cross-country team won its region championship, and the boys finished second in their region.
  • Jackson’s girls cross-country team won its region championship.
  • The Benjamin E. Mays varsity competition cheer team were the 4A Region 4 champions, and their coach Jennifer Jones was named Coach of the Year.
