The Georgia Athletic Coaches Association (GACA) recognized the achievements of two Atlanta Public Schools (APS) coaches with end of the year awards.
Midtown High School athletic director and girls’ soccer coach, Patricia “Blair” Barksdale, was named the All-Region Coach of the Year for 4A Region 4. Midtown’s girls soccer team went undefeated in region games (7-0), reached the second round of the GHSA state playoffs, and finished the 2024-2025 season with an 11-7 overall record.

Barksdale was also chosen to coach the GACA All-Star soccer game. Midtown soccer player Eve Nahmias and Mays High School soccer player Johnathan Cabrera Reyes were the APS soccer players who played in the GACA All-Star games.
The B.E.S.T. Academy head basketball coach Brian Weeden was named the GACA All-State Coach of the Year. B.E.S.T. Academy (25-7) won the GHSA A Division 1 state championship, the first state championship for the school.
Weeden was also named the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) All-Metro Coach of the Year. B.E.S.T. Academy student athlete Jacob Mickell was selected to the GACA All-State team, AJC All-Metro team, and the AJC All-State team. Joshua Mickell was also selected to both the AJC All-Metro and All-State teams.
