The Atlanta Falcons kicked off their 2024-2025 “Dirty Bird” shows at Continental Colony Elementary School in the historic Greenbriar area. In partnership with RaceTrac and as part of an Atlanta Public Schools districtwide initiative, the event will reach four elementary schools, including M. A. Jones Elementary School, Dobbs Elementary School, and Barack & Michelle Obama Academy.

Students gathered in the gymnasium and enthusiastically greeted Falcons representatives, including the team mascot, Freddie the Falcon, who led the students in fun games and dance activities.

Through interactive videos featuring key Falcons football players, cheerleaders, and front office executives, Continental Colony students learned to persevere through adversity and “Rise Up,” the organization’s long-standing mantra.

“It was important for our students to have the Atlanta Falcons visit,” Continental Colony Elementary School principal Kristen Horton said. “They see [the Falcons] on TV. They may go to a game. But to have them come to their school and then recognize greatness in two of our own was very important. It’s a good morale booster for staff as well.”

During the event, two standout individuals from the school were recognized for their resilience in the face of challenges. Elaina McNeil was honored as the Student of the Week, while Jereal Duran, a fifth-grade science teacher, was named Teacher of the Week. Both were awarded Atlanta Falcons prize packs as part of their recognition.

“We chose two people who rise up; they’re resilient,” Horton said.

In addition to honoring McNeil and Duran, Continental Colony was presented with a $500 check from the Atlanta Falcons and RaceTrac, furthering the event’s community-focused impact.

Home of the “Prowling Panthers” and strong ties to the local community, Continental Colony Elementary School was an ideal school to recognize as the Atlanta Falcons continue to build a bond with the city of Atlanta and its citizens through charity and teamwork.
